Mack Flashback-Simple was Better

If you know me, you know I LOVED my childhood. There were so many things that I loved about childhood. The things I remember most were the simple pleasures. My big wheel, my bike, my Barbies, playing board games with my family, and our family time on Sunday afternoons.


One of my favorite times though was Friday afternoons. You see, my dad got paid on Fridays, so he would bring my sisters and I a treat. Usually it was ice cream sandwiches. I think they were 3 for $1.00 then. Sometimes though, he would come by and pick us up and let us choose our own treat. We loved to go to this little country store called Hall's. It was near the Lowndes/Montgomery county line...or down the road from the Montgomery Motor Speedway if you're from the area. Below are two things that I loved-



I hope Brett and I can bless Miss E with memories like this. As a child, I didn't expect to get something every time I walked into a store. We were there for a purpose, to buy something we needed not wanted. I catch myself buying her things now, just because they're cute. I really need to stop that. She will soon be old enough to know.

We love our little house in town, but I can not wait to move to the country. It will be easier for Brett to handle all of the farming business, but it will allow us a simple lifestyle that lots of townfolk miss out on. The simple pleasures! I'm talking about running around barefoot all day, chasing lightning bugs at night, eating peanuts on the porch, playing hide and go seek in the woods...just good fun. I can't wait! I've heard a saying recently..."go back to the woods". Believe me, we'd be more than happy too!

Mack Flashback-Mathnet

Yes, I'm a nerd! Does anyone else remember the show Mathnet? I used to love it when I was little. Funny thing is, I've never liked Math!
Mathnet is a segment on the children's television show Square One, of which five seasons were produced (1987-88, 1990-92). This parody of Dragnet featured detectives at the Los Angeles Police Department who solved mysteries using their mathematical skills. There were two main characters: detectives Kate Monday (Beverly Leech) and George Frankly (Joe Howard). Mary Watson also had a regular role as the duo's technical analyst, Debbie Williams. Later on in the series, Kate Monday was replaced by Pat Tuesday (Toni DiBuono) one season after the show's setting moved to New York City in the third season. James Earl Jones played a recurring role as the chief Thad Green. He also briefly appears in season 4 and indicates he knows Pat Tuesday. When the duo was transferred to New York, Captain Joe Greco (Emilio Del Pozo) became their leader and undercover NYPD officer Benny Pill (Bari K. Willerford) became their semi-regular backup support. I got the bit of information below from Wikipedia...reliable, I know!

Each segment of the series aired on one episode of Square One, a production of the Children's Television Workshop aimed at teaching math skills to young viewers. Five segments made up an episode (one for each weekday), with suspense building at the end of each segment. A Mathnet comic briefly appeared in 3-2-1 Contact magazine, also a CTW production, but the magazine eventually stopped featuring Square One content.

Both Mathnet and Square One went off the air in 1994 (it ran as reruns until then after the final 1992 season was completed), reappearing from 1999–2003 on the cable television network Noggin, a joint venture of Nickelodeon and CTW.

You can find lots of videos of Mathnet on Youtube. I didn't want to post one, because most segments are about 10 minutes long. I remember getting so excited when the little dramatic music played. Oh how I love the internet! Now people don't think I'm crazy when I remember all the little details of my childhood.

Mack Flashback...makes getting

clean almost as fun as getting dirty. As I lay here tired as a dog what I would really love to do is take a good bubble bath. This brought back memories of one of my favorite things to do as a child. Get out the Mr. Bubble powder and fill the tub with bubbles. The bubbles lasted a long time and you could let your imagination run wild making them into things. I used to get in lots of trouble for sloshing the water out of the tub by sliding back and forth. Oh to be that carefree again! I know adults always told me to enjoy my childhood, but all I wanted was to be big and have my own checkbook and carry a purse with things that were actually useful in it. I am sure my daughter will think the same thing one day. She already only wants to play with real remote controls and cell phones. I hope she will take full advantage of her childhood and play until her heart's content. Those days can never be brought back. I might have to pick me up some Mr. Bubble and just try to have the feeling back for about 30 minutes...well probably more like 15. I haven't had a 30 minute bath luxury in quite some time.
